First Performance

Merry Munchkin Smiles!

The opening performance of The Wizard of Oz was this afternoon at The Gaslight Melodrama in Bakersfield, CA.  My 6 year old daughter was the Merry Munchkin and I am such a proud father. The performance was the first of three that I’ll get to watch. So much fun! You can tell that the kids all worked very hard learning their parts. The performances were great. My daughter was funny, since her part was only in the begging and the end, she would periodically peek out from behind the side curtain and you could see her cute little face trying to catch a peek of the crowd. I told her later that she was super cute, but she probably shouldn’t do that in the next two shows. Secretly I hope she does so I can get a picture of it.

The Melodrama has been a favorite of my family for at least 25 years. If you live in Bakersfield and have ever thought of going to the Melodrama, I highly recommend it. And if you don’t live here, happen to find yourself in Bakersfield and would like to experience one of only four Melodrama and vaudeville shows in the State of California, you should visit the website, secure some tickets, and enjoy a show while you are here. Believe me, you will be in for quite a show!
