Focus T25 Alpha Phase Day 01 of 70 – December 7, 2015

It’s December and the weather is getting colder here in Bakersfield. The cross country season is now over and its time for me to divert my focus away from the student-athletes for a bit and back on my training for the next  few months. I learned a few things about my personal training this cross country season while running with the kids – one being that I am a faster runner when I don’t just train by running alone. I’ll share my thoughts on diversification of workouts in a follow up post this weekend. For now though, let me start off this triathlon training log with Day 1 of my 70 day, get back in competition shape, effort 🙂

Now that I am teaching full time, finding the time to work out has been tricky. Luckily I was in a position while coaching the cross country team to workout with them. Historically I am not a morning work-er-out-er. I like to workout mid day or in the afternoon. That is why working out with the cross country team was great for me these past few months. But now I am not coaching for a couple months until the swim season starts up so its time for me to get back to a system that has proven to be successful for me in the past – Focus T25 coupled with spinning and sporadic swims. This time however, I am going to get in some additional run training to keep my legs used to the miles.

So here it goes! Let’s try this again!

Last night I didn’t get the best sleep. Sleep is important to be able to train at your best as well as to ensure proper recovery on a daily basis. I need to make sure that I am keeping to a decent sleep schedule from now on. I am a night owl, so hopefully this wont be too much of an issue. The following is my weigh-in, nutritional intake, and exercise regiment:

Morning Weigh-in: 179
Breakfast:  2 – Activit2 – Slimming Formula, 2 – Cordastra, and Chocolate Vegan Shakeology, and Coffee
Lunch: Ham and Turkey Sandwich
Workout:  Focus T25 Cardio
Post-Workout: P90X Results & Recovery Formula
Dinner:  3 Tacos and a Sprite

Project New Year – Day 18 – P90X2 Triathlon Training

Today was a getting it done day! Spent a little time on the Falco V. Worked on relaxing the upper body, relaxing the face, and breathing efficiently. Project New Year – Day 16 and 17 – P90X2 Triathlon Training

The past couple of days have been really good. Not saying the days before weren’t as good, just saying, the past couple of days have been pretty good. The kiddos are awesome! They’re having good days at school, working hard on homework, and honestly trying to tolerate each other at this point. Sibling relationships are interesting to say the least. 🙂 …. Workout-wise I was able to get in a good bike ride and X2 Yoga yesterday and a swim and Mobility workout today. Feeling great right now. Lungs have been a little tight from yesterday’s dust storm but the inhaler helps that. One thing about having asthma in this valley is you learn to have your inhaler handy around this time of year. The weather is getting cooler. Hoping that we get some rain here in California. The Valley after a good rain is an amazing place to be. It really is beautiful. But right now we need a bunch of rain, and I mean a bunch! Looking to get a bike ride in tomorrow at some point 🙂 Can’t hook up with the regular 11:20 ride guys tomorrow though, nope, I get to be the secret reader in Davis’ class! I am going to read “Where the Wild Things Are” and then maybe another book. We’ll see how fast it reads 🙂 Pretty excited to get to do this!

Project New Year – Day 13, 14, and 15 – P90X2 Triathlon Training

It looks like the weekend is where I need to put in the extra work on my nutrition. Pretty ugly. The double batch of Rice Krispie Treats from my Mom didn’t help. They are quite honestly the best I have ever had….my weakness. Sugary Carbs. The problem is, unless I am riding my bike, those surgery carbs leave me feeling like crap. No good. Here is my accountability for the past 3 days.

Dang Rice Krispie Treats! After this weekend and with the week ahead I decided to mix in a Recovery Week for P90X2. I can work in some rides and swims this week during the day and then do Recovery + Mobility or X2 Yoga at night. The big thing is getting back on the bike. Last week I pushed it a little hard and felt it in my back. Hoping the Yoga this week helps keep that loose. Getting some miles in right now is what is important. Looking forward to tomorrow!

Project New Year – Day 10 – P90X2 Triathlon Training

Wednesday, October 8, 2014
Today was a designed Active Recovery day…whoops! I had taken 10 days off of the bike in order to let my body get used to being back on the P90X2 so I figured today would be a good day to get out there and go for a ride! Today was a good day. I was a little stiff from yesterday’s Plyocide workout (lots of jumping) so I started out with some foam rolling to get some relief. I had a feeling that I was going to get on the bike and want to push it. I have been wanting to try a new product (at least new to me) called Energy Bits. Energy Bits are 100% Organic Spirulina Algae and are supposed to be a great source of natural energy. I’ll be posting a product review in the coming days, so keep an eye out for it if you are interested in sports nutrition 🙂 Spoiler Alert: The Stuff is Pretty Cool!

So I was really happy with the ride. My back got a little fatigued and tight but I expected something on my body was going to complain. Doing X2 Recovery + Mobility this evening really helped loosen everything up. Looking forward to another Foundation Phase workout tomorrow! Core, Core, Core!

Busy day today. Picked up the kids this afternoon. Hit Starbucks for some refreshments. Ran into one of Davis’ classmates and her family, so we stayed and had a little chat time. Very cool surprise! We headed home for homework. Hammered that out like pro’s. Davis got a nosebleed and built a building on Minecraft. Addison and I tackled Week 2 Plyocide (she actually did about half of the workout 🙂 ). My kids never cease to amaze me. We spent a little time watching YouTube (We like to watch the Shaytards) and then headed out to meet my parents for dinner. Got some frozen yogurt after on the way back to Mommy’s. Jumped in the pool this evening and then headed home for some much needed calories. Finished off with a little foam rolling session. Just in time to do some laundry and maybe stay up for the lunar eclipse! Looking forward to tomorrow!

Project New Year – Day 8 – P90X2 Triathlon Training

Monday, October 6, 2014

Day 8! Week 2 started today and I am pretty excited (aside from the fact that I started it off by gaining 5 pounds from this weekend’s ice cream binge.) To quote Helen ‘Mama’ Boucher (Waterboy), “It’s the Devil!” Although I am pretty sure she never talked about Ice Cream that way ;-). So yes, Week 2 started today. This is where the first week of Foundation really starts to pay off. I’ll be doing all of the same workouts this week as I did last week, however this week, the focus is on doing them better. Better form, keeping up with the team, finding the relaxation in the movement. Today’s Core workout was phenomenal. I was able to do all of the moves and keep up with the team up until the end with Med Ball Burpees. Thats a tough one! I am looking forward to being stronger and being able to do the entire workout next week without fail!
